Mark Sheehan, guitarist and founding member of Irish pop-rock band The Script, dies aged 46

The Irish pop-rock band The Script has recently announced the untimely death of their guitarist and founding member, Mark Sheehan, at the age of 46. The band shared a statement revealing that Sheehan passed away in the hospital following a brief illness. Sheehan’s death has been a huge loss for the music industry, and he is being remembered by his peers as a “young legend of music.”In addition to being a founding member of the band, Sheehan was a much-loved husband, father, brother, and friend. Sheehan co-founded The Script in 2001, alongside lead vocalist Danny O’Donoghue and drummer Glen Power. The band achieved international success with their self-titled album, released in 2008, which received Platinum certification in Australia, selling over 70,000 units, and 4x Platinum certification in the UK, selling over 1,200,000 units. The Script was also recognized for their hit singles such as “Breakeven,” “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved,” and “Hall of Fame.”

The Script was scheduled to support Pink on her UK and Europe tour starting in June. It is unclear how the band plans to move forward with their tour and future plans without Sheehan. Tragically, Mark Sheehan passed away on April 15, 2023. The band has not made any announcement yet regarding the impact of his death on their future plans, including their scheduled support of pop artist Pink on her Summer Carnival tour in the UK and Europe.

OneRepublic vocalist Ryan Tedder, who shared a summer tour with The Script in 2013, said that Sheehan was one of the “nicest, most genuine people I’ve ever had the pleasure of touring with and getting to know”.

Conor Donohoe of the band Wild Youth, who are Ireland’s delegate for the 2023 Eurovision song contest, thanked Sheehan for his professional support.

“Mark helped me become who I am today, he believed in me and Wild Youth more then we did ourselves. And gave us all the time in the world. I’m so honoured to have known you,” Donohoe said.
